Following in the tradition of the Ethical Will, Rachael Freed, M.SW., author of Women's Lives, Women's Legacies: Passing Your Beliefs and Blessings to Future Generations, Creating Your Own Spirtitual-Ethical Will, has developed a very special program for women to explore and share their legacies. The path to creation of a Spiritual-Ethical Will™ is often taken within a Women’s Legacy Circle™.

What is the Difference Between an Ethical Will and a Spiritual-Ethical Will?

The Ethical Will has its roots in a Patriarchal tradition. Women’s voices typically have been lost in ages of obscurity. Creation of the Spiritual-Ethical Will celebrates the unique contributions women make to our legacies of values, beliefs and blessings. It gives voices to the silenced foremothers, and unites the past, present and future through the writings of women today.

What is a Women’s Legacy Circle?

The Circle is an ancient symbol for wholeness, a boundless container, unity. It is the absence of a beginning and an end.

A Women’s Legacy Circle allows small groups of women to share, witness and affirm each other, their foremothers and descendents in a sacred circle. It formally begins with a 5-week workshop. Each workshop focuses on guided exercises and sharing activities to enable women to begin the process of creating their unique legacy for family and community. You do not have to be a “good writer” to create a memorable and important legacy for your loved ones of today and tomorrow. Workshop activities are designed to support and encourage even the most self-conscious writers to express themselves through words, pictures, arts, crafts or other feminine media of communication.
